Final Test preparation day: January, 20-23 2011

My beloved students,

       Regarding to the Final Test (UAS) will be held soon on January, 24-29 2011, I have to inform you that the faculty especially for English  Teacher Training and Education program gives two days for self-preparation from January, 20-23 (including Saturday and Sunday). That's all the information I can give now, see you on the test and Good luck ;)

John Lennon (Reading material, Januari 5 2011)

John Winston Lennon

       This is a short biography of John Lennon. In terms of reading activity for the class involved, this material is used to gain self-development. So, check this out!

      John Winston Lennon was born October 9th, 1940 in Liverpool, England to Fred and Julia Lennon. When he was young, his parents separated and he went to live with his Aunt Mimi. John's mother Julia was struck car resulting in her death. John was devastated. He became a hand-full in school. John's school master thought, since he didn't pay much attention in school, except for drawing doodles, that John could go to an art school. He made it to art school. During this time, he met a woman by the name of Cynthia Powell, who later became his first wife. At sixteen, John created the group called the "Quarry Men". At this point, Paul joined the group, then came George. And so the story continued that the Quarry Men evolved into the Beatles. Stu Sutcliffe, a life-long friend of John's and an original member of the Beatles, died suddenly of a brain aneurism in Hamburg. As the group evolved Pete Best left the group and Ringo Starr joined. John married Cynthia Powell in August 1962 and they had a son together who they called Julian. The marriage didn't last long, John and Cynthia divorced a couple years later. John met Yoko Ono soon after and they were married. In 1970, the Beatles broke up, after Paul McCartney had announced that he was suing the group to get out of the contract agreements. After the group broke up, he and his second wife, Yoko Ono, carried on intertwined solo career. John Lennon and Yoko Ono promoted peace by staging "Bed-ins" and their peace campaign with speeches to the press; "War Is Over! If You Want It" with massive billboards in 12 cities all over the world. John disappeared from the public eye in 1975. For the next five years, be lived at home in nearly total seclusion, taking care of his new son, Sean, while Ono ran the couple’s financial affairs. In 1980, John and Yoko started work on the album "Double Fantasy" but John's return was short-lived. On December 8th 1980, John was shot by a "lunatic" by whom's name I will not give. It's Siwaratri day!

The worship day (purification day) for Balinese people will be held on Monday in the beginning of the year. Yes, it is Siwaratri day which comes every year. Siwaratri is a holy day of worship to perform before Hyang Widhi Wasa / God Almighty in its realization as Sang Hyang Shiva. Siwaratri Day has special significance for mankind, because on that day Sang Hyang Shiva will merge in meditation/yoga. This results Hindus perform activities that lead to self purification, focusing mind to Sang Hyang Shiva, in an effort to generate awareness of self. This is realized by the implementation of upawasa Brata (no eating), monabrata (no speaking) and jagra (no sleeping).

     In this reason, studying activity for the students of Mahasaraswati University will be held next after the day (on Tuesday, January 4, 2011). So does for English teachership program. That is the information for now, will catch you up soon.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011

       Finally the day is coming, a new year’s day. Great rain and fantastic fireworks were coloring the sky on the new year’s eve yesterday.  The people were flocking around in Puputan Badung Bali square to see fireworks. Some just coming by to merge in the crowded. On the other hand, many cannot stand of the ashes produced by the fireworks and preferred to enjoy their dinner in the restaurant.

     Philosophically, New Year is the day that marks the beginning of a new calendar year, the event is celebrated in some manner.  In Brittany, for example, a common image used is that of an incarnation of Father Time (or the "Old Year") wearing a sash across his chest with the previous year printed on it passing on his duties to the Baby New Year (or the "New Year"), an infant wearing a sash with the new year printed on it. The celebrations held world-wide on January 1 as part of New Year's Day commonly include parades, concerts, entertainment that usually enjoyed from the comfort of home, family time, traditional meals etc.

     And last but not least, whatever was the activity held by the people yesterday, all of them were hoping a better life and a bright future. Fireworks and firecrackers are a sign of fun and happiness. Each represents wish and chance. New Year is the beginning, so life starts over the following year. Be ready and HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011!
