Two weeks FREE for you, 31 JAN-13 FEB 2011!!

Well, Final Exam is finished already, but may not for all because there might be another following test taken in accordance to time limitation on each subject. Through this I say CONGRATULATIONS for your endeavor through the night resulting next to the best score, students! Optimism should be created then while waiting for it.
The major important news now given to you is that next Monday, 31 Jan-13 Feb (good number I think ;D) will be your 'goody moody day' (for some may be) because there will be no teaching & studying activity through those days. But I believe that your sense of creativity will be challenged to prepare the next semester by doing some self-learning. So, get up from your 'lazy chair' and do anything that can make you stronger and better! See you soon!

P.S
Pay attention to all students,
Such before, I already told that I would give you four materials for Final Test. Please read and study them all as well as to improve your reading comprehension and understanding. Thank you :-)

The Maestro, Don Antonio Blanco
**Don Antonio Blanco**
Blanco, arguably the most famous and successful artist to ever live in Bali, built his magnificent studio on top of a mountain overlooking the Campuan River. This flamboyant building, a unique blend of Balinese architecture imbued with the spirit of his native Spain, houses an interesting collection of works drawn from different periods of his long career. During his life it was visited daily by hundreds of people from all over the world. The artist, full of "Catalan charisma," earned himself the sobriquet "The Fabulous Blanco," an expression that mirrored his talent for creativity.
Antonio Blanco was born on September 15, 1911, in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Both of his parents were Spanish, a fact that Blanco believed linked him geographically and spiritually to Miro and Salvador Dali. His father settled in Manila during the Spanish - American War, where he attained prominence as a physician. Blanco was educated at the American Central School in Manila. During his high school years he loved the arts, literature and language classes but struggled in scientific subjects. It was no wonder that he spoke six languages - Spanish, French, English, Tagalog, Indonesian and a bit of Balinese. After completing high school in Manila, Blanco studied at the National Academy of Art in New York under Sidney Dickinson. During those early formative years, Blanco concentrated on the human form, fascinated by the female body more than any other subject matter. To further his studies and ignite his traveling spirit, he traveled extensively throughout the world before he finally landed in Bali in 1952.The King of Ubud gave Blanco a piece of land to set up his home and studio in Campuan, Ubud, at the confluence of two sacred rivers. Blanco and his Balinese wife, the celebrated dancer Ni Ronji, lived in their mountain retreat, barely leaving it for the world outside. Following a brief trip to the United States, where Blanco acquired many new collectors, the couple never left their fantasy home again.
Living in serene surroundings with his four children, Tjempaka, Mario, Orchid and Maha Devi, Bali became Blanco's center. He was fascinated by the island and completely captivated by its charm.
Blanco lived and worked in his magical hilltop home until his death in 1999, feverishly creating his fantasy portraits of beautiful women. Surrounded by lush gardens, rice fields and with a Banyan tree standing over his family's temple, Antonio Blanco proceeded to create a new reality for himself. His artistic outpourings of this isolated world became much sought after by eager art lovers, collectors and promoters. Within a few years, Blanco became the most famous foreign artist to make Bali his home. He was recognized in both Indonesia and abroad, receiving numerous awards and commanding huge prizes at international auctions.
By the end of his life, Blanco had begun building his museum at his studio in Campuan. Dramatically, he died just before its inauguration. His funeral was marked by a very important cremation in Ubud. It was Blanco's dream to turn his studio-mansion into a museum. His son, Mario, fulfilled this dream by following his path to become a painter. The Blanco Renaissance Museum is now open to the public, exposing both the maestro's and Mario's art works. John Lennon (Reading material, Januari 5 2011)

John Winston Lennon
This is a short biography of John Lennon. In terms of reading activity for the class involved, this material is used to gain self-development. So, check this out!

John Winston Lennon was born October 9th, 1940 in Liverpool, England to Fred and Julia Lennon. When he was young, his parents separated and he went to live with his Aunt Mimi. John's mother Julia was struck car resulting in her death. John was devastated. He became a hand-full in school. John's school master thought, since he didn't pay much attention in school, except for drawing doodles, that John could go to an art school. He made it to art school. During this time, he met a woman by the name of Cynthia Powell, who later became his first wife. At sixteen, John created the group called the "Quarry Men". At this point, Paul joined the group, then came George. And so the story continued that the Quarry Men evolved into the Beatles. Stu Sutcliffe, a life-long friend of John's and an original member of the Beatles, died suddenly of a brain aneurism in Hamburg. As the group evolved Pete Best left the group and Ringo Starr joined. John married Cynthia Powell in August 1962 and they had a son together who they called Julian. The marriage didn't last long, John and Cynthia divorced a couple years later. John met Yoko Ono soon after and they were married. In 1970, the Beatles broke up, after Paul McCartney had announced that he was suing the group to get out of the contract agreements. After the group broke up, he and his second wife, Yoko Ono, carried on intertwined solo career. John Lennon and Yoko Ono promoted peace by staging "Bed-ins" and their peace campaign with speeches to the press; "War Is Over! If You Want It" with massive billboards in 12 cities all over the world. John disappeared from the public eye in 1975. For the next five years, be lived at home in nearly total seclusion, taking care of his new son, Sean, while Ono ran the couple’s financial affairs. In 1980, John and Yoko started work on the album "Double Fantasy" but John's return was short-lived. On December 8th 1980, John was shot by a "lunatic" by whom's name I will not give. (People like that don't deserve fame.) John's memory will live forever in the hearts of his fans. (taken from: http://www.angelfire.com/celeb/Shannon/John.html, edited by MJ)

It's Siwaratri day!

The worship day (purification day) for Balinese people will be held on Monday in the beginning of the year. Yes, it is Siwaratri day which comes every year. Siwaratri is a holy day of worship to perform before Hyang Widhi Wasa / God Almighty in its realization as Sang Hyang Shiva. Siwaratri Day has special significance for mankind, because on that day Sang Hyang Shiva will merge in meditation/yoga. This results Hindus perform activities that lead to self purification, focusing mind to Sang Hyang Shiva, in an effort to generate awareness of self. This is realized by the implementation of upawasa Brata (no eating), monabrata (no speaking) and jagra (no sleeping).
In this reason, studying activity for the students of Mahasaraswati University will be held next after the day (on Tuesday, January 4, 2011). So does for English teachership program. That is the information for now, will catch you up soon.

Regards,

E.S.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011

Finally the day is coming, a new year’s day. Great rain and fantastic fireworks were coloring the sky on the new year’s eve yesterday.  The people were flocking around in Puputan Badung Bali square to see fireworks. Some just coming by to merge in the crowded. On the other hand, many cannot stand of the ashes produced by the fireworks and preferred to enjoy their dinner in the restaurant.
Philosophically, New Year is the day that marks the beginning of a new calendar year, the event is celebrated in some manner.  In Brittany, for example, a common image used is that of an incarnation of Father Time (or the "Old Year") wearing a sash across his chest with the previous year printed on it passing on his duties to the Baby New Year (or the "New Year"), an infant wearing a sash with the new year printed on it. The celebrations held world-wide on January 1 as part of New Year's Day commonly include parades, concerts, entertainment that usually enjoyed from the comfort of home, family time, traditional meals etc.
And last but not least, whatever was the activity held by the people yesterday, all of them were hoping a better life and a bright future. Fireworks and firecrackers are a sign of fun and happiness. Each represents wish and chance. New Year is the beginning, so life starts over the following year. Be ready and HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011!

Best Regards,
E.S.
